Tips to Travel Safe Over the New Year

by | Dec 29, 2012 | Safety

If you and your friends or loved ones are planning a New Years get-away, we hope you travel safe. Here are a couple suggestions to securely get you to your New Years destination.

  • Make sure your vehicle is properly maintained. If maintenance is not up to date, have your car and tires inspected before you take a long drive. Also change your oil and check your spark plugs and liquid levels. Your honest NARPRO mechanic will be more than happy to provide any routine car maintenance or repairs you need for your trip.
  • Plan your route in advance and be prepared for busy roads during the most popular times of the year, such as New Years travel. It’s always a good idea to leave earlier or later to avoid heavy traffic.
  • If you’re traveling with children, remind them not to talk to strangers. Go with them on bathroom breaks and give them whistles to be used only if the family gets separated.
  • Make sure you have some type of roadside assistance information on hand, in case an incident occurs on the road.
  • Keep a car charger for your phone with you at all times. AAA and many other companies offer smartphone applications that help motorists request help without making a phone call.
  • Pull off the road if you feel tired. It is a lot better to be rested while driving than to rush to get to your destination a little bit quicker. Driving drowsy is just as serious as driving while intoxicated.

By taking the time to plan ahead and prepare for your trip, you can make your New Year travel, or any road trip, an enjoyable and fun time.
