A Few Things You Should Always Have in Your Trunk

by | Jul 18, 2012 | Maintenance

If you have the unfortunate luck of ending up stranded on the side of the road as a result of engine failure or an accident, it’s always good to be prepared, especially in extreme weather conditions. Here’s a list of some items you should always have in your trunk.

1) Extra coolant and an extra quart of oil. This is good if you are in more rural areas, because you might need it and there might not be a gas station on every corner.

2) Have maps. Or, in today’s world full of smart phones and GPS navigation systems, make sure to have a map accesible on your phone, or at least one printed out from the internet with direction to and from where you’re traveling.

3) Duct tape. It has a lot of good uses, such as repairing a hole in a leaky hose.

4) Spare tire. If you’re going on a long trip, it might be best to have true extra tire int he trunk instead of the donut tire that comes with most cars. Most of those small, donut tires won’t allow you to get very far anyway; they’re usually not recommended for more than 50 miles of driving.

5) Tools. Throw in a screwdriver, a few flares, a pair of pliers and vise grips.
